Test sites

The project’s test fields were chosen to represent different types of grassland in Poland and Norway. Field measurements were made on plots belonging to individual farmers.

Researchers from the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography took measurements on 47 fields in the Wielkopolska and Podlaskie provinces.

Researchers from NIBIO, on the other hand, conducted grassland measurements at five locations covering a total of 18 different fields in Norway. The test fields were characterized by varying climatic and soil conditions. Fresh and dry biomass, Leaf Area Index (LAI) projection area, soil moisture, and meteorological data were measured.

In Norway, field cameras were used to photograph surface conditions on a daily basis. Snow cover, snow melt, the start of the growing season and grass growth were monitored, providing information on frost risk and grass growth conditions which provided valuable input to the creation and management of a database containing all collected measurements.
